It was a good night for HBO, "Glee" and probably the bartenders at Hollywood's annual Golden Globe awards.
HBO's Prohibition-era drama "Boardwalk Empire" dethroned "Mad Men" as television's top drama — in the estimation of Golden Globe voters. Al Pacino and Claire Danes both won acting awards for their roles in HBO movies.
"Glee," meanwhile, won the Globe for television's best comedy or musical, its second Globe for the two years the exuberant Fox series has been on the air.…

Ten weeks after giving birth to 17 puppies, the Rhodesian Ridgeback mother is to be spayed while her cute offspring leave for new homes, the dog's owner said Thursday.
Ramona Wegemann said the 26-hour labor was very tiresome for the mother, Etana, and she does not want to endanger the dog's health with another pregnancy.
Wegemann said she had to personally feed the eight female and nine male puppies with a bottle filled with special milk for several weeks, because Etana's nine…

John Wayne's original "True Grit" was a vehicle for a worldly wise actor in his 60s in another gruff Old West role he long since had perfected.
The new take on "True Grit" is a star-making showcase for Hailee Steinfeld in her screen debut as Mattie Ross, the 14-year-old who sets the violent story of retribution in motion.
Wayne's main trail buddy was Kim Darby, who was in her early 20s when she played Mattie in 1969's "True Grit," based on Charles Portis' novel. Joel and Ethan…

Rapper 50 Cent made a hit song out of talking about how he gets money. Now another rapper wants to get some too — from 50 Cent.
Lawyers for Tyrone Simmons, an Atlanta rapper who goes by "Caliber," filed a copyright infringement lawsuit Wednesday in federal court in Brooklyn.
The lawsuit names 50 Cent, along with the producer who created the instrumental beat for the 2007 hit song, "I Get Money," and a host of music industry companies.
The lawsuit seeks damages and says…

For years, civic boosters have pointed out intriguing parallels that suggest Seneca Falls, N.Y., was the inspiration for Bedford Falls, the make-believe mill town in "It's a Wonderful Life."
Those musings are now embodied in a museum of sorts that showcases Frank Capra's Christmas movie classic.
And who cut the ribbon at Friday's grand opening? Zuzu, of course.

Comedian Dane Cook's sister-in-law, ordered to pay millions in restitution after pleading guilty to stealing from the entertainer, asked a judge on Friday to allow her to keep two gold wedding bands she says are family heirlooms.
The rings are not worth much money but have sentimental value to Erika McCauley, lawyer Scott Matson said. Judge Mary-Lou Rup did not immediately rule.
McCauley and her husband, Darryl McCauley — Cook's half brother — have been ordered to pay Cook $12…
